The Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish

Hola,
To kick off Hispanic Heritage Month, we said the Pledge in Spanish. Well, it was not well received by one vocal falculty member who called the press, some students, and a few parents. As the advisor, now I wonder how can I bring about more tolerance, acceptance, and appreciation of the diversity in our nation. The squeakiest wheel was also the parent of two on our members. Now our dept. chair has discouraged the French advisor having the French Honor Society members from saying the Pledge in French to kick off National French Week next month.
Perhaps you could get some Hispanic leaders in the community
to speak to the faculty and parents. Students could create a Hispanic
Heritage link to add to the school website. Remind the group that
students who say the pledge in another language are using their
language skills in a very meaningful way. Push for cultural diversity
workshops for the faculty and parents.
